Alaska Winter Night

A February evening in the Cleary Summit area outside Fairbanks, AK. Temperature: around 20 below zero. This one is special to me because it took some advanced planning to pull off. No one had ventured into this little section of woods near where we were staying, and the hip-deep snow made it impossible to just run out there at a moments notice. The day before this shot, I had borrowed some snowshoes and packed down a trail to a few spots like this in the woods where I thought I could get a well composed photo pointing north. this effort proved to be well worth it over the next couple days. When this moment came, I was able to take my newly established trail down to this clearing and get a shot without the huge effort that it would have required otherwise.
