A historic train in a historic location. In the summer of 2024, Union Pacific took “Big Boy 4014,” the largest operating steam locomotive in the world, on a western states tour. I caught the Big Boy on the descent just after cresting Donner Summit, on the route of the original Transcontinental Railroad along the Truckee River.
