Truth be told, this was the end of a pretty unflattering yawn. Being the nice guy that I am, I used the high burst speed of my camera to do this young lion a favor and pick out the single frame for my website that wouldn’t get him made fun of if any of the other lions saw it. This pride of lions was in pretty deep cover, allowing me only a small window through the bushes to get a mostly unobscured look at this young one’s face through an 800mm lens. The yawn started while it was looking off to the right, but for whatever reason, as he finished things up he turned towards me, making eye contact with the camera during this most ferocious moment.
