Perseids in Pink
Displayed in the gallery at 36x24 on varnished canvas.
The Perseid meteor shower of 2024 came with a bonus: the northern lights returned to Northern California for the second time in the same year during the peak of the meteor shower. I had set my camera on interval mode, taking an exposure every 13 seconds. This is a stack of 711 images, showing the apparent motion of the stars through the sky as the earth rotates on its axis. There are several meteors, a couple airplanes, a few satellites, and the pink and red glow of the aurora on the northern horizon in this shot. It was truly an incredible confluence of events.
